Getting help from CAP

What happens when you complain to Consumers Association of Penang (CAP)? The issue could be about anything, from poor quality products or services to tenancy or pollution. What action can CAP take?

Products complaints - What you can do

Defective goods or purchases that do not fit their description can cause consumers a headache. Not only do they hurt the pocket, they can also be dangerous. A faulty electrical product, for example, may start a fire or even cause a fatal injury.

Your basic rights as a consumer

Consumers had little protection in the world marketplace before the 1950s. On March 15, 1962, US President John F. Kennedy put forth the "Consumer Bill of Rights" to help consumers understand their rights and responsibilities. In 1985, eight basic consumer rights were adopted by the United Nations' Assembly, which resulted in consumers having stronger consumer protection policies worldwide. March 15 is now declared as World Consumer Rights Day!

Regulate Fees on Orthodontic Treatments

High cost of dental brace placement lead people to fake solutions

The Consumers Association of Penang (CAP) is shocked with recent reports in the media of fake dentists offering illegal orthodontic or dental brace placement services resulting in severe health consequences for the patients.  Consumers utilising such services risk HIV and Hepatitis infections, tooth decay and gum disease.  These fake service and procedures are done by unqualified persons at a fraction of the normal price.  Consumers are lured to these services by the affordable price.  CAP is of the view that the high cost of orthodontic procedures is one of the key factors leading consumers to seek illegal treatment.

Why complain?

complaintIf you unpack your newly bought dress and find that it not the same as that advertised in the catalogue, would you complain?  Or if your brand new  toaster keeps burning your bread, would you complain? Or would you have kept quiet and done nothing?
