Cultivating good lifestyle habits goes a long way in protecting health. Some good daily habits to have include regular exercise, eating healthy food, drinking enough water, getting sound sleep, avoiding stress, stopping smoking and limiting alcohol.
“Many positive changes take place when you decide to take care of your health. Healthy foods can do wonders for the human brain, from improving memory to reducing stress. Exercise leaves you feeling happier. Your mental health will flourish with better sleep,” says holistic health and fitness coach Kristen Jakobitz.
Good habits for mental health: Spend time offline, away from the Internet and screens. Set time limits and don’t use your phone after that. Challenge yourself with games, puzzles, new adventures or trying something new (eg: learning to dance) – all activities that keep your mind sharp. Or try meditation.
Good lifestyle habits confer many health benefits – preventing obesity, heart disease, stroke, and high blood pressure; improving mood and reducing stress levels; boosting energy; and ultimately contributing to a better quality of life.
