In response to the query raised by the Exco for Environment Phee Boon Poh and Tanjung Bungah assemblyperson Zahril Khir Johari, CAP wishes to state that the complaint of the burning smell in the Tanjung Bungah area was raised by a Malaysia My Second Home resident of that area.
His complaint, was that he smelled burning plastic at around 4 a.m., two or three times a week, each lasting between one and two hours.
According to his complaint he had recorded the incidents of the smell of burning as follows:
January 21, 22, 24, 25, and 31 producing a “high smell”
January 26, and February 1, “very high smell”
January 27 and February 4 and 5, “light smell”
January 23, 28, 29, 30, and February 2, 3, 6, and 7, having “no smell”
The complainant had alerted the Department of Environment about this problem; he and CAP are still awaiting for the response from DOE.
In light of the fire at the Bedong landfill and now with the illegal burning at Relau CAP views that complaints from the public of this nature must not be taken lightly and there has to be immediate and rigorous investigation of the complaint.
