On 5 April 2024, CAP conducted a programme with the Climate Action Group of SEGI College Penang on “Caring Climate, Caring Community”. This hybrid programme allowed students who could not attend in person to participate remotely. We had 13 participants joining us physically and 11 participants joining us online. A total number of 45 students have been reached through sharing of materials.

Earthworms make the soil fertile.

The CAP team presented two insightful sessions that aimed to empower individuals with practical knowledge and actionable steps to combat climate change:

> “Save Energy to Combat Climate Change” – Ung Jun Min and Ganesan Sivalingam, research officers at CAP, shared invaluable energy-saving tips that are both easy to implement and impactful. From simple switches to mindful habits, every action counts in our journey towards a sustainable future!

> “Composting and Climate Change” – Saraswathi Devi Odian and Theeban Gunasekaran, urban garden trainers at CAP, showcased the magic of composting. They explained how kitchen waste can be transformed into nutrient-rich compost. Composting diverts organic waste from landfills and prevents the release of methane, which is a potent greenhouse gas. Through composting, we can significantly reduce the carbon footprint, making a tangible impact to slow down climate change.

Informative books by CAP distributed to the students.

The engagement from the students was inspiring! Their enthusiasm and curiosity fueled meaningful discussions, and we are thrilled to see them take away valuable insights.

Thank you to SEGI College Penang’s Climate Action Group for hosting us, and to all the attendees for their participation and eagerness to learn. Together, let’s continue to care for our climate and our community!
