Provide Permanent Houses for Residents of Kampung Permatang Tok Subuh
The Consumers Association of Penang (CAP) has urged a developer to not evict the residents of Kampung Permatang Tok Subuh, Seberang Perai Tengah (SPT) from their homes before all the demands made by the residents are fulfilled.
CAP is dismayed over the problem faced by the residents here and disappointed that the government has not given due attention to the plight of the villagers even though the issue has been long-standing.
Is it because of development that the poor residents in this village are arbitrarily evicted, without being given a home to live in and adequate compensation given to ensure their future survival?
CAP was informed by the people here that they were surprised and puzzled how this village land that was established about 70 years ago can and has been sold to developers without their knowledge.
On 17th February 2016 the residents here began to get worried when issued notices to vacate their homes before March 4, 2016.
In view of this CAP urges the state government, the Land Office and Local Authority to investigate and explain the results of these investigations to the people concerned to ensure the sales and acquisition of the land in Kampung Permatang Tok Subuh was lawful.
CAP views that the residents of Kampung Permatang Tok Subuh are entitled to compensation and basic needs and services for them and their future generations. CAP hopes that the Penang state government and the developer can provide permanent houses for the 26 families.
