Food for thought over needless death

Two elderly women died during a stampede involving more than 1,000 people tussling for 200 free food coupons in Kuala Lumpur. The number of people there was five times over the number of available free food coupons for the elderly.

The Consumers’ Association of Penang (CAP) is outraged over this news because it should not have happened and the two women should not have died.

People should stop this practice of distributing food or/and ang pows to gain publicity because it affronts all dignity of those queuing up for these items when such practice could have been done privately.

CAP calls on the government to immediately put a stop to this form of practices.
