A Brief Recap of Previous Negotiations
The second session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC-2) for Plastics will take place in Paris, France, from 29 May to 2 June 2023. This United Nations committee will in Paris to work on what is intended to be a landmark treaty to bring an end to global plastic pollution.
The Committee is charged with developing the first international, legally binding treaty on plastic pollution, including in the marine environment. This is the second of 5 meetings due to take place to complete the negotiations by the end of 2024.
The first round of Negotiations (INC-1) took place from 28 November to 2 December 2022 in Punta del Este, Uruguay. For a better understanding of the Treaty, here are the highlights from the previous INC-1.
