Keep a ceiling on chicken prices

The Consumers’ Association of Penang (CAP) is thoroughly concerned about the increase in chicken retail prices to between RM8 to RM8.50 per kg about a week ago.

The retail price had increased from about RM7 within a week. It is a drastic increase and we want to know what has become of the ceiling prices of essential items imposed by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP).

With Hari Raya looming ahead and under the current Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO), consumers are financially pressed.

Perhaps we have to remind the government that it is not the responsibility of consumers to know the snags in the supply chain that set off the chain reaction in the increase of food prices. It is the government’s duty to address the problem of escalating chicken prices.
