Lead is a toxic metal that is especially harmful to brain development in children under age 6 and babies still growing in the womb. Lead paint also poses a hazard for those who come in contact with it during every stage of its use – manufacture, use, removal, and disposal.
Lead Safe Paint® is an independent, third-party certification program that lets customers know that the paint they are purchasing contains less than 90 parts per million (ppm) lead – the strictest regulatory standard for lead content in paint established by any government anywhere in the world.
The Lead Safe Paint® logo is awarded only to those paint brands where initial analysis of all paints produced under the brand by an independent and accredited laboratory verifies that the paints contain less than 90 ppm total lead (dry weight). This initial analysis is further verified through subsequent monitoring through random sampling of a portion of the paints under the brand.
