Traffic calming slows vehicle speeds. Dutch engineers use a method that has been successful – they increase the “heat” on their streets using bricks, creating friction that reduces the speed and volume of motor vehicles.
Here’s a before and after image of a street in the city of Groningen in the Netherlands, where two lanes of asphalt have been replaced by one lane in brick.
