Firecracker Sales in Little India Pose Serious Fire Risk

Firecrackers sold widely in Little India Penang.

The Consumers Association of Penang (CAP) is deeply concerned about the sale of firecrackers in the overcrowded Little India area during the festive season.

The area is packed with stalls and canopies, leaving little space and creating a serious fire hazard. Many of these stalls are not properly equipped; they lack fire extinguishers, safe storage, and basic safety measures.

A single spark in such a crowded place can cause a major fire, putting lives, shops, and homes at risk.

CAP urges the Fire and Rescue Department (BOMBA) to immediately inspect the area and take action before any incident occurs.

Firecrackers should only be sold by licensed shops that follow safety rules. Local authorities must stop illegal sales and ensure public safety comes first.

Prevention is better than disaster.
