NAPPING ALLOWED – FOR BETTER LEARNING

In China, it is common for students to have naps at school in the middle of the day. In recent years, some schools have even introduced methods for students to lie down during their naps, such as via reclining chairs and beds.

The traditional midday nap is meant to set pupils up for an afternoon of solid learning. Naps can improve concentration and information retention, and thus be a key to better grades. According to the American Heart Association, napping can increase alertness, improve memory, and help improve a creative mindset.

A 2019 study from the University of Pennsylvania and the University of California, Irvine, published in the journal SLEEP showed that children who nap midday excel academically, are happier and have fewer behavioural problems.

Implementing nap times in schools can also benefit students’ ability to complete schoolwork, it has been reported.
