Rachel Carson was a renowned nature author and a former marine biologist with the US Fish and Wildlife Service. Her 1962 book, “Silent Spring” exposed the hazards of the pesticide DDT, and questioned humanity’s faith in technological progress.
The book questions our attempt to control the natural world around us. It meticulously described how DDT entered the food chain and accumulated in the fatty tissues of animals, including human beings, and caused cancer and genetic damage.
Carson concluded that DDT and other pesticides had irrevocably harmed animals and had contaminated the world’s food supply. (Source: NRDC, US)
“Silent Spring” is more applicable today than when it was first published. Our world is awash in chemicals, more than ever. ~ GMO Free USA
