PROTECT EARTH’S TWO LUNGS

Two Lungs. One Earth. One Future. In this striking image, Earth’s lungs take form – one thriving with green forests, the other alive with coral reefs and marine life. Together, they symbolise the delicate balance that sustains life on our planet.

Forests and oceans aren’t just natural beauty – they are our planet’s life support systems. They breathe for us, purify the air, regulate the climate, and nurture countless species. Yet both are in danger from deforestation, pollution, and climate change.

RAINFORESTS have been around for tens of millions of years. Also known as the “lungs of the planet”, rainforests generate about 20% of the world’s oxygen and its trees play a key role in reducing pollutant levels. Tropical rainforests cover less than 7% of the Earth’s dry land surface. Over half of all plant and animal species in the world call rainforests home.

OCEANS provide most of the earth’s oxygen, as much as 80%. Marine organisms such as seaweed, phytoplankton and some bacteria photosynthesise – meaning that just like plants, they consume carbon dioxide, water, and sunlight, and produce oxygen that benefits all living creatures.

But the lungs of the earth are now speeding to destruction. Rainforests are under threat from deforestation and could be gone in 100 years. Oceans are being destroyed by multiple factors, including overfishing, marine pollution, ocean warming and acidification.

Humanity has the power and the knowledge to reverse the harm and restore land and oceans – if it acts now. This isn’t just about the environment – it’s about us. Every breath we take connects us to Earth’s rhythm. Every action – plastic or reusable, forest lost or tree planted – shapes the lungs of our planet.

Let’s protect the green and restore the blue. Because the health of the Earth is our own.
