The story of soil is one of remarkable transformation and fragile persistence. Over hundreds of years, lifeless mineral particles slowly evolve into a complex, living ecosystem teeming with biodiversity. This fertile layer, mere inches thick, is the foundation of terrestrial life, capable of sustaining countless generations when treated with care and respect.
Yet, this slowly-crafted miracle can be destroyed in a fraction of the time it took to create. Once lost, the journey back to fertility is long and uncertain. As stewards of the Earth, we bear the responsibility to protect this precious inheritance.
Across the globe, soil is dying. The United Nations says the world only has about 60 years of harvests left before cultivable soil becomes desert. Lack of organic content turns soil into sand, leading to food crisis, water scarcity, loss of biodiversity, and more. The solution: Bring back at least 3-6% organic matter in the soil by bringing the land under shade from vegetation and enriching the soil through plant litter and animal waste.
