10 WAYS TO CUT YOUR FOOD’S CARBON FOOTPRINT

EAT FOR EARTH (Part 3), last in a 3-part series

Food is fundamental to life. But the things we eat are fuelling some of the greatest threats to humanity’s survival. A growing body of evidence has found our industrialised food production systems are a source of pollution, a contributor to climate change and a cause of biodiversity loss.

You can help change that, though. The United Nations Environment Programme has listed 10 simple things that you can do today to lessen the environmental toll of your diet.

  1. Understand food as a process, not a product.
  2. Support sustainable agriculture.
  3. Know what you’re eating.
  4. Plant your own garden.
  5. Buy local.
  6. Adopt a plant-rich diet.
  7. Diversify your diet.
  8. Reduce food waste.
  9. Avoid unnecessary packaging.
  10. Make your voice heard.
