Are you drinking enough water? Our body is composed of about 60% water. Drinking water helps maintain the balance of body fluids. Water is also vital to our health. It’s important for many of our body’s functions, including bringing nutrients to cells, getting rid of wastes, protecting joints and organs, and maintaining body temperature.
Our body loses fluid through sweat, tears, vomiting, urine or diarrhoea, and every time we breathe. Not drinking enough fluid to replace what we lose can lead to dehydration, which upsets the balance of minerals (salts and sugar) in your body, and affects the way it functions.
Your risk for dehydration is higher in hot weather. To stay healthy and prevent dehydration, a good rule of thumb is to consume about eight 8-ounce glasses of water a day – more if it’s hot outside or if you’re active.
The body has no way to store water and needs fresh supplies every day. So make sure you’re consuming enough fluids. Here are 4 ways to sneak more water into your diet.
