A new study has found an increased risk of liver cancer and chronic liver disease deaths among women who consumed sugar-sweetened beverages on a daily basis. The study in JAMA followed 100,000 postmenopausal women for over 20 years. 207 women developed liver cancer and 148 died from chronic liver disease over this period.
The study reported that 6.8% of women who consumed one or more sugar-sweetened beverages daily had an 85% higher risk of liver cancer and 68% higher risk of chronic liver disease mortality compared to those who had fewer than 3 sugar-sweetened beverages per month.
