PROMOTING CONSUMER ACTION FOR JUST ENERGY TRANSITION IN MALAYSIA

Energy Saving Initiatives in Selected Schools in Penang

– a CAP Project Report

The Consumers’ Association of Penang (CAP) is proud to share the report of our recently completed project, “Promoting Consumer Action for Just Energy Transition in Malaysia” in schools. This project aimed to raise awareness among consumers and school communities, about the importance of energy saving and energy efficiency in addressing climate change, and to take action to reduce energy consumption.

The project was carried out from 1 September 2023 until 31 August 2024. A total of 10 schools, consisting of both primary and secondary schools from Penang, as well as a civil society organization, participated in this project. Throughout the project, we conducted awareness-raising programmes and discussions on energy savings with teachers and students. In addition, we also organised2 energy-saving and climate awareness workshops that involved teachers.

We are glad to report that several schools successfully reduced their energy consumption, proving that small changes can lead to significant results! This initiative fostered energy-conscious habits and showed how reducing electricity bills can be achieved while protecting the planet.
