Reject Reclamation & Toxic Recycling!
Protect Karpal Singh Drive, a community movement, is objecting to the proposed 160-acre reclamation project (90 acres landfill, 70 acres reclamation) at Jelutong Landfill extending to Karpal Singh Drive in Penang.
There is scientific evidence that the massive development project threatens our environment, health, and quality of life, says Protect Karpal which is set up by a group of concerned citizens and residents of Penang.
The group has listed the following threats to community from the project:
1. A 24-year environmental and public health crisis
2. Irreversible damage to our marine ecosystem
3. Traffic congestion that will paralyse our community
4. Privatisation of public resources for private gain
5. Severe health risks to hundreds of school children
6. Devastation of local businesses and recreational value
7. Erasure of cultural and historical significance
Protect Karpal is calling on community members, scientists, and concerned citizens to lend their support in objecting to the project. An online petition has been created for the public to join the people’s call to protect our health and to preserve our coastal environment and community for future generations.
