The Consumers Association of Penang (CAP) is very concerned about the recent rapid increase in the price of tomatoes in Penang markets.
A CAP market survey carried out today shows that the price of local product tomato has increased from RM8.00 to RM12.00. A month ago it was only sold for RM5.50 per kilogram. Tomato is an essential ingredient and is used by almost every consumer.
Several retailers even complained that distributors and wholesalers have warned them that prices of other vegetables could go up soon.
CAP calls on FAMA and The Ministry of Domestic Trade And Cost Of Living to carry out an immediate investigation into the exorbitant price hike of tomatoes and take action against those who are practicing profiteering.
