SMK Sungai Ara Students Lead the Way in Energy Conservation

On 23 April 2025, the Consumers’ Association of Penang (CAP) conducted an engaging energy-saving talk at SMK Sungai Ara, reaching out to a vibrant crowd of nearly 300 students. The session aimed to spark awareness and encourage a culture of energy efficiency among young learners, as part of the broader effort to combat climate change.

CAP’s research officer, Ung Jun Min, shared a variety of hands-on tips that students could apply both at school and home. That means doing things like turning off the lights when you leave a room, unplugging chargers when you’re done, letting sunlight light up your room, and biking or taking public transport instead of driving.

Beyond reducing electricity bills, Ung emphasized that energy-saving practices help lower greenhouse gas emissions, reduce pollution, and enhance environmental quality. These efforts are crucial in slowing the effects of global warming and securing a sustainable future.

By equipping students with knowledge and entrusting them with real responsibilities, CAP believes this initiative will spark lasting change extending from classrooms to homes and entire communities. Together, we can make a difference one switch at a time.
