WALK YOUR BACK PAIN AWAY

If you often suffer from back pain, going for a gentle stroll 5 times a week improves the problem, and reduces the chances of it coming back.

Low back pain that doesn’t have an obvious cause is a common scourge and around 70% of sufferers will suffer a recurrence within a year – but regular walking seems to be a powerful antidote.

Researchers have discovered that people who go for a walk when they have back pain almost double the time before they suffer another episode.

In their study, researchers from Macquarie University in Sydney tested the benefits of a gentle stroll on a group of around 700 people who suffer from non-specific low back pain; half walked for 30 minutes, 5 days a week, and the rest carried on with their normal life.

On average, the walkers were free of back pain for 200 days afterwards while the non-walkers suffered a recurrence within 112 days, the researchers found.
