Foods with a natural green colour are a powerhouse of nutrients that are good for health. Here’s why you should be eating more of nature’s favourite colour.

> LOW in fat. Leafy greens contain virtually no fat and can help in weight loss.

> HIGH in fibre. Green foods such as broccoli, cabbage, leafy greens and beans are fibre-rich foods that aid digestion and promote a healthy digestive tract.

> HELP in cell regeneration. Green foods like peas, beans and asparagus are loaded with folic acid, which helps our body in producing and maintaining new cells.

> GOOD for eyes. Dark green leafy vegetables contain phytochemicals like lutein and zeaxanthin which reduce risks of cataract, and macular degeneration which is the main cause of blindness in the elderly.

> ANTI-cancer. Quercetin is a bioflavonoid which is found in green foods. This flavonoid contains antioxidants and has unique anti-cancer properties.

> DIABETIC-friendly. Green foods have low GI, and are hence useful for Type 2 diabetes sufferers. GI (Glycemic Index) is the measurement of carbohydrate-rich foods and their impact on blood sugar levels.

> GREAT for bones and muscles. Green foods are major sources of iron and calcium. They help in getting stronger bones and muscle contraction.

> BOOST immunity. As green foods are full of beta carotene which can be converted into Vitamin A, consumption of green foods helps in better immune functioning.
